Kekla Magoon é autora de vários romances para jovens adultos, entre os quais How It Went Down, pelo qual recebeu o prémio de honra Coretta Scott King, e The Rock and the River, pelo qual recebeu o galardão para Novos Talentos Coretta Scott King e uma nomeação para o NAACP Image Award.
Ensina escrita em Nova Iorque, organiza visitas a escolas e bibliotecas em todo o país e é membro do Conselho de Escritores para o Projeto de Escrita Nacional.
