Nasceu em Tóquio a 20 de julho de 1980. No ano 2000, com 19 anos, ganhou o prestigiado Prémio Tezuka pelo seu trabalho Boku to Usagi (Coelho e Eu), posteriormente publicado na Akamaru Jump. De 2005 a 2006, a sua série Robo to Usakichi, uma aventura de ficção científica em que entra um coelho (novamente!), foi publicada pela revista mensal Shonen Sirius. A sua série mais recente, Blue Exorcist, iniciou-se na Jump Square de abril de 2009. Kazue Kato tem usado um coelho como autorretrato nas suas notas de autor desde o início, e as suas obras têm com frequência algo a ver com coelhos.
