Karan Mahajan nasceu em 1984 e cresceu em Nova Deli, na Índia.
O seu primeiro romance, Family Planning, foi finalista do Prémio Dylan Thomas e foi publicado em nove países.
A sua escrita apareceu já em diversas publicações, como o New York Times, o Wall Street Journal, o New Yorker online e o The Believer.
Terminou estudos na Universidade de Stanford e no Centro para Escritores de Michener. Vive agora em Austin, no Texas.
