Julio de Paula
Julio de Paula is a professor of chemistry and dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Lewis & Clark College, where in 2010 he became associate vice president and director of special projects. Born in Brazil, de Paula graduated in chemistry from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in the United States, where he also obtained his Ph.D. in biophysical chemistry from Yale University. He also taught chemistry at Haverford College. For his distinguished postdoctoral work at Michigan State University, he was awarded a fellowship from the National Institutes of Health. In 2011, de Paula assumed the position of Program Director in the Chemistry Division of the National Science Foundation. He conducts research in the areas of molecular spectroscopy, biophysical chemistry, and nanoscience.
