Nascida e criada em Santa Monica, na Califórnia, Julie Clark cresceu a ler livros na praia enquanto toda a gente praticava surf. Depois de frequentar a Universidade do Pacífico e de passar um breve período a trabalhar no departamento de atletismo da Universidade da Califórnia, em Berkeley, regressou a Santa Monica para dar aulas. Vive nesta cidade com os dois filhos pequenos e um doodle dourado muito impulsivo.
