Professora aposentada da Universidade do Minho e professora da Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Fundadora da Associação Criança onde dirige o Centro de Investigação. Membro da Direção da EECERA (European Early Childhood Research Association) onde é responsável pelos números monográficos da respetiva revista. Diretora da Coleção Infância da Porto Editora onde se publicaram até ao momento 18 volumes. Na sua colaboração internacional destacam-se as redes de pesquisa com o Brasil (Universidade de São Paulo), Espanha (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela) e Inglaterra (CREC, Birmingham). Entre a sua extensa publicação salienta-se a última Assessment and evaluation for transformation in Early Childhood, Routledge, 2016.
