Joseph Joffo nasceu em Paris, em 1931. Filho de um barbeiro judeu, teve uma infância feliz até ao eclodir da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Durante a ocupação alemã, a sua família foi perseguida pelos nazis. Joseph conseguiu escapar e só regressou a Paris após o final da Guerra.

Escritor, guionista e ator, conheceu o sucesso com Os Meninos Que Enganavam os Nazis - o seu primeiro romance, publicado em 1971 e desde logo bestseller em França, encontrando-se traduzido em 20 países e tendo vendido desde então mais de 20 milhões de exemplares. Foi recentemente adaptado ao cinema.

Joseph Joffo é autor de mais oito livros de ficção e não ficção.
