Josef Schovanec nasceu em agosto de 1981, em Paris, e é autista. Aos 19 anos, depois de experimentar vários medicamentos, foi-lhe feito o diagnóstico que o impediu de ser internado e que lhe permitiu aprender a viver com a síndrome de Asperger.
Depois de se licenciar na Sciences Po Paris, continuou os estudos em línguas. Dá conferências no mundo inteiro e trabalha como investigador na universidade de Bucareste.
