José Ramos Tinhorão
José Ramos Tinhorão was born in Santos, Brazil, on February 7, 1928. After moving to Rio de Janeiro in 1938, he graduated in Law and Philosophy and has dedicated himself to journalism and, primarily, to research in the areas of Music and Ethnography. Author of a vast bibliography, mainly on Brazilian music, he published the following titles with Editorial Caminho: Black people in Portugal: A Silent Presence; Fado: Dance of Brazil, Song of Lisbon, the End of the Myth; The Origins of Urban Song; Domingos Caldas Barbosa – The Poet of the Viola, the Modinha, and the Lundu (1740-1800); The Rasga: A Black-African Dance.
