Historiador e professor associado com agregação da Faculdade de Ciências Humanas e do Instituto de Estudos Políticos da Universidade Católica Portuguesa. A sua investigação e docência incidem sobre a história portuguesa e internacional dos séculos XIX e XX, sendo autor de mais de uma centena de livros, capítulos e artigos académicos sobre diferentes temas e épocas da história contemporânea. É também investigador do Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Cultura e membro da direção da Sociedade Científica da Universidade Católica Portuguesa, subdiretor do Programa Interuniversitário de Doutoramento em História e colunista e comentador da rádio Renascença em assuntos de história ou de atualidade política e social.
