José Carlos Marques é Doutorado em Sociologia. Professor Coordenador Principal do Instituto Politécnico de Leiria e Investigador do CICS.NOVA.IPLeiria. Os seus interesses de investigação têm incidido sobre os fluxos migratórios portugueses, a diáspora portuguesa, a integração dos migrantes, as práticas transnacionais dos migrantes, políticas migratórias e migrações qualificadas. Nos seus projetos de investigação mais recentes tem dedicado atenção aos atuais fluxos de emigração portugueses, às práticas de discriminação no mercado de trabalho, e às expetativas e práticas de regresso dos emigrantes portugueses.
