Nasceu a 10 de Junho de 1967, no lugar de Chão Bom, concelho do Tarrafal, ilha de Santiago, Cabo Verde. Estudou literatura e filosofia. Tem colaboração em jornais e revistas de Cabo Verde, Portugal e Brasil. Pelo seu primeiro livro publicado, "Paraíso Apagado por um Trovão", recebeu o Prémio Mário António de Poesia 2004, atribuído pela Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian à melhor obra de autor africano de língua portuguesa e de Timor-Leste publicada no triénio 2001-2003.
