José Brandão nasceu em Algés, Oeiras, em 14 de março de 1948.
Em 1969 foi para a tropa com mobilização para a guerra em Moçambique de onde regressou em finais de 1971.
Virá a ser preso pela PIDE em princípios de 1973 acusado de pertencer a uma organização ligada ao PCP, a ARA.
Ligado ao mundo sindical e político, adere em 1979 às teses da UGT e do PS atingindo lugares de relevo nestas organizações.
Atualmente encontra-se sem qualquer filiação política ou sindical.
Tem uma vasta série de artigos publicados entre 1983 e 1995 em jornais como o Expresso, Diário de Notícias e o Diário de Lisboa.
