José António Pagola is a priest who has dedicated his life to biblical studies, particularly research on the historical Jesus. Born in 1937, he holds a degree in Theology from the Gregorian University in Rome (1962), a degree in Sacred Scripture from the Biblical Institute in Rome (1965), and a diploma in Biblical Sciences from the École Biblique in Jerusalem (1966). A professor at the San Sebastián seminary (Spain) and the Faculty of Theology of Northern Spain (Vitória campus), he was also rector of the San Sebastián diocesan seminary and vicar general of the diocese of San Sebastián.
