Jorge Matta é doutorado em Musicologia Histórica pela Universidade Nova de Lisboa, onde é professor no Departamento de Ciências Musicais da Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas. É maestro assistente do Coro Gulbenkian desde 1976.
Destacado investigador, editor e intérprete de música portuguesa, tem realizado inúmeras primeiras audições modernas, estreias absolutas e gravações de obras vocais e instrumentais de compositores portugueses.
