John Phillips estudou História da Antiguidade e Arqueologia na Universidade de Birmingham, Inglaterra, após o que trabalhou como arqueólogo no Ironbridge Gorge Museum, em Shropshire. Actualmente é escritor, editor e crítico, especialista em obras de não-ficção para jovens. Já escreveu mais de cem livros sobre a Segunda Guerra Mundial, os vitorianos, piratas, biografias, civilizações da Antiguidade e muitos outros temas.
