Joel Silveira Ávila

Joel Silveira Ávila nasceu em Fetais da Piedade, na ilha do Pico. Junto com os pais, João Pereira Ávila e Leonela Silveira Ávila, emigrou para os Estados Unidos em 1963, aos sete anos. Joel possui bacharelato, MBA e JD, todos pela Universidade de Massachusetts. É casado com a ex-Susan Bedard e têm três filhos adultos e três netos.
Joel aposentou-se recentemente de uma carreira em Tecnologia da Informação e atuou no governo local como membro eleito do Conselho de Planeamento em Dartmouth, Massachusetts. É autor do artigo "Os Dabneys no Pico – Uma Herança Esquecida", publicado na edição de 2023 do Boletim Núcleo Cultural da Horta.
