Joël Dicker nasceu em Genève, Suíça, em 1985. Estreou-se na literatura com O tigre, com apenas dezanove anos, e no romance com Os últimos dias dos nossos pais. Mas foi a publicação do segundo romance que o transformou num fenómeno literário global: A verdade sobre o caso Harry Quebert foi publicado em trinta e três países, vendeu mais de quatro milhões de exemplares e venceu o Grande Prémio de Romance da Academia Francesa, o Prémio Goncourt des Lycéens e o Prémio Lire para melhor romance em língua francesa. Foi ainda adaptado a série televisiva pela mão de Jean-Jacques Annaud, com estreia no canal AMC. Seguiram-se O livro dos Baltimore, O desaparecimento de Stephanie Mailer, O enigma do quarto 622, O caso Alaska Sanders, Um animal selvagem e Uma catastrófica visita ao zoo, confirmando, livro após livro, a mestria de Dicker no género do mistério literário.
