Nasceu nas Caldas de São Jorge, em Santa Maria da Feira. Escritor, jornalista independente, fotógrafo e investigador da História da Expansão Portuguesa, é autor dos livros Mar das Especiarias, Viagem ao Tecto do Mundo – O Tibete Desconhecido, No Mundo das Maravilhas (integrados no Plano Nacional de Leitura), Oriente Distante e Na Senda de Fernão Mendes Pinto. Publicou ainda os álbuns fotográficos Os Bayingyis do Vale do Mu – Lusodescendentes na Birmânia, A Maravilha do Outro – No Rasto de Fernão Mendes Pinto e Sagres – Nossa Barca.
É também autor dos documentários televisivos Bayingyi, a Outra Face da Birmânia, Himalaias – Viagem dos Jesuítas Portugueses e De um Lado para o Outro – Diários da Mongólia. Colabora na imprensa de Portugal e de Macau, onde habitualmente reside.
