Foi Coordenador Científico do LABEST, Diretor do Laboratório do Betão Estrutural, e responsável das disciplinas de Estruturas de Betão do curso de Mestrado Integrado em Engenharia Civil da FEUP. Autor de diversas publicações científicas e técnicas no domínio do betão estrutural e na análise experimental e numérica de estruturas de betão. Consultor na área de comportamento, observação e reabilitação de estruturas.
