João Nicolau nasceu em Setúbal, em 1986. Licenciou-se em Educação Física e Desporto e é mestre em Futebol, tendo também o grau de treinador UEFA B. É atualmente diretor técnico do Vitória Futebol Clube, emblema da sua cidade natal onde exerceu igualmente funções de coordenador técnico e treinador-adjunto das equipas principal, de sub-23 e de sub-19, entre os anos de 2018 e 2021. Trabalhou junto de todos os escalões de formação e acumulou experiências nas categorias de base no futebol chinês, além de outras em futebol sénior, em ambientes diversos.
