Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson tem um doutoramento em Sânscrito pela Universidade de Harvard e licenciou-se no Toronto Psychoanalytic Institute. Foi director de projectos nos Sigmund Freud Archives. Os documentos que aí encontrou sobre a abordagem de Freud ao abuso de menores criaram enorme controvérsia no mundo da psicanálise. É autor de The Assault on Truth; Against Therapy: Emotional Tyranny and the Myth of Psychological Healing; e Final Analysis: The Making and Unmaking of a Psychoanalyst, entre outros livros. Vive em Berkeley, na Califórnia.
