Irene Duch Latorre
I was born in the Horta neighborhood, on the outskirts of Barcelona, near the Collserola mountain range. Collserola and the places I visited with my parents and the group that accompanied us were the settings for my first adventures in nature. Yearning for more nature, I studied Environmental Biology and traveled to Ecuador in my final year of the course. Ecuador is a captivating country, crossed by the Andes mountain range, with miles and miles of jungle on both sides of the mountains. I had the incredible opportunity to venture into the jungle and work as a primatologist, closely following all kinds of monkeys and observing their behavior with binoculars. I felt great pride in being able to do work similar to that of Jane Goodall, whom I have admired since childhood. Like Jane, I also went to university to continue my studies and acquire more formal knowledge about primatology. In my case, I did a master's degree in Biological Anthropology in the city of Madison, in the northern United States. And, like Jane, now it's time to leave the jungle and the academy to be closer to the children and young people of Madison, Barcelona, and everywhere else.
