Ichiro Kishimi nasceu em 1956, em Quioto, cidade onde vive. Sempre sonhou ser filósofo. Acabou por se especializar em filosofia ocidental clássica, com foco nas teorias de Platão. Em 1989 começou a investigar a psicologia Adleriana. Escreve e leciona sobre o tema e acompanha jovens em clínicas psiquiátricas, como orientador e consultor certificado pela Sociedade Japonesa de Psicologia Adleriana. Traduziu para japonês algumas obras de Alfred Adler e é autor de vários livros.
