Humberto Lopes é investigador efetivo do núcleo E:etc do CIIE - Centro de Investigação e Intervenção Educativas da Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação da Universidade do Porto.
As crónicas e as histórias reunidas de Crónicas Africanas evocam experiências ao longo dos últimos dez anos, durante viagens realizadas no Norte de África, na África Ocidental e na África Austral, tendo uma parte delas tomado forma no contexto do trabalho de campo de uma tese de doutoramento sobre educação em Moçambique. Alguns destes textos tiveram publicação prévia no Jornal Público.
