Horácio

Filho de um liberto, Horácio nasce na Venúsia a 8 de dezembro de 65 a.C. Terminada a sua educação, parte para Atenas procurando aprofundar o seu estudo da filosofia. É assim que, ainda jovem, cai nas boas graças de Bruto e passa a integrar o contingente republicano. Após a derrota na batalha de Filipos, em 42 a.C., na qual triunfam Marco António e Octaviano, Horácio regressa a Roma e inicia a sua carreira literária sob a proteção de Gaio Cílnio Mecenas, um rico e excêntrico patrono das artes. Autor de sátiras, epodos, odes e epístolas, Horácio ficou conhecido entre nós como o príncipe dos poetas romanos. Morre a 27 de novembro de 8 a.C.
