Hélder Silva nasceu em Guimarães em 1975. Mas vive em Vizela desde os primeiros meses de idade. Apaixonou-se pelo jornalismo aos 15 anos e procurou formação superior. É licenciado pela Escola Superior de Jornalismo do Porto e jornalista da RTP desde 1997. Em 2002 começou a apresentar o «Jornal da Tarde» e ao serviço da RTP foi enviado especial a cenários de guerra, atentados, desastres naturais e acontecimentos de dimensão nacional e mundial. Em 2022 esteve na Ucrânia, durante a invasão russa, onde recolheu testemunhos de terror em Kiev, Lviv, Bucha, Irpin, Borodianka, Zaporizhzhya e noutras zonas atacadas.
