Han Eun-mi nasceu em Wonsan, na província de Gangwon, a mais velha de duas irmãs.
Após concluir o ensino básico, teve de suportar quatro anos de trabalhos duríssimos num batalhão de construção.

Depois de viver nas ruas de Wonsan, Han fugiu para a China, tornando-se vítima de tráfico humano. Forçada a viver com um homem chinês, acabou por ter um filho seu.

Em 2015, conseguiram escapar, e atualmente vivem em Seul.
Han Eun-Mi não pode ser fotografada pois uma parte da sua família vive ainda na Coreia do Norte e correria risco de vida.
