Graça Tavares é licenciada em filologia românica. Foi professora do ensino secundário e dedica-se deste há bastantes anos a escrever e a pintar, tendo tido cerca de quinze anos aulas de pintura.
A criatividade é uma das suas pulsões fundamentais, tomando como referência a expressão de Paul Eluard: "Je suis cree, jecree. C' est la seule justice".
