Giuseppe Plazzi nasceu em Ravena, em 1959. É professor de Neurologia na Universidade de Bolonha, onde dirige o Centro para o Estudo e Cura dos Distúrbios de Sono, além de presidente da Associação Italiana de Medicina do Sono.
Autor de um vasto número de artigos e de estudos científicos publicados em revistas internacionais, é um dos maiores especialistas no tratamento da narcolepsia adulta e pediátrica, e tem vindo a contribuir ativamente para a definição e descoberta de vários distúrbios do sono.
