Gilly Macmillan cresceu em Swindon, no Wiltshire, e viveu os últimos anos da adolescência no Norte da Califórnia. Estudou História de Arte na Universidade de Bristol e no Courtauld Institute of Art, em Londres. Trabalhou na Burlington Magazine e na Hayward Gallery antes de constituir família.
Desde então, dá aulas de fotografia em part-time e é mãe a tempo inteiro. Gilly vive em Bristol com o marido e os três filhos. Não Me Deixes é o seu primeiro romance.
