Gianfranco Pasquino nasceu em Turim. Doutorou-se com Norberto Bobbio e especializou-se com Giovanni Sartori e é, desde 1975, professor de Ciência Política na Universidade de Bolonha. Ensina também no Bologna Center da Johns Hopkins University. Director da Rivista Italiana di Scienza Politica, é autor de numerosas obras, entre os quais Il sistema politico italiano (Bononia University Press, 2002) e Curso de Ciência Política (Principia, 2003).
