Fredy Perlman (1934-1985) nasceu na Checoslováquia, de onde fugiu ao nazismo com os pais, para os Estados Unidos. Professor de sociologia e antropologia durante algum tempo, foi dissidente da universidade e ativista durante toda a sua vida adulta, tendo participado no Maio de 68 em França e nas sublevações contemporâneas ocorridas nos EUA. Tipógrafo e impressor de todos os seus livros, criou uma cooperativa gráfica que se tornou um exemplo de autonomia solidária. É autor de um grande número de ensaios e de uma obra ficcional muito original, que a sua morte prematura interrompe plena criação.
