Dramaturgo, guionista de cinema, poeta e ex-diplomata, Francisco Azevedo nasceu no Rio de Janeiro, em 1951.
Começou a dedicar-se à literatura em 1967, quando venceu o concurso promovido pela Organização dos Estados Americanos. Além de livros e peças de teatro, Francisco Azevedo já escreveu para mais de 250 produções, incluindo guiões de longa e curta-metragem, documentários premiados e anúncios para televisão.
O Arroz de Palma, o primeiro romance de Francisco Azevedo, lançou o autor para o estrelato literário.
