Francesca teve a ideia para a série por acidente, quando um amigo lhe pediu para escrever uma história sobre uma criança terrível. A personagem surgiu-lhe no instante. Imaginou imediatamente um rapazinho agressivo, impulsivo e teimoso, o desespero de pais bemintencionados, mas vulneráveis…
Por outro lado, estava também interessada em escrever sobre a rivalidade entre irmãos, e sobre as famílias em que os pais decidem que um filho é "o bom" e o outro "o mau" (contraste entre os irmãos Pedro Perfeito e Henrique). Francesca confessa, aliás, que adora Pedro Perfeito, porque se sente tocada pela sua desesperada necessidade em ser bom, enquanto Henrique é obviamente o preferido de toda a gente.
