Fracisco Niebro

Francisco Niebro is one of the pseudonyms of Amadeu Ferreira (1950-2015). He was president of the ALCM (Associaçon de la Lhéngua i Cultura Mirandesa) and the Academia de Letras de Trás-os-Montes, vice-president of the CMVM (Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários), and visiting professor at the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Author and translator of a vast body of work in Portuguese and Mirandese, also under the pseudonyms Marcus Miranda and Fonso Roixo, he translated Mensagem by Fernando Pessoa, works by Horace, Virgil and Catullus, The Four Gospels, and two Asterix adventures. At Âncora Editora, he published translations into the Mirandese language of Os Lusíadas by Luís Vaz de Camões, and a commemorative edition for the 25th anniversary of the adaptation of that work into comics by José Ruy, with whom he also collaborated on the album Mirandês – História de uma Língua e de um Povo, and its corresponding Mirandese version. He is the author of La Bouba de la Tenerie/Tempo de Fogo, the first novel published simultaneously in Mirandese and Portuguese, and of the works Norteando, with photographs by Luís Borges, Ars Vivendi Ars Moriendi (poetry), Lhéngua Mirandesa – Manifesto an Modo de Hino/Língua Mirandesa – Manifesto em Forma de Hino, Ditos Dezideiros – Provérbios Mirandeses and Belheç/Velhice. The works L’Eiternidade de las Yerbas/A Eternidade das Ervas [Selected Poems], with watercolors by Manuol Bandarra, and O Fio das Lembranças – Biografia de Amadeu Ferreira, by Teresa Martins Marques, were presented posthumously.
