Floro Freitas de Andrade nasceu em 1933 em Rio Grande do Sul, no Brasil. Publicou o romance O Fazedor de Cercas, originalmente editado pela editora Francisco Alves, em convénio com o Instituto Nacional do Livro. Rapidamente adquiriu o rótulo de clássico entre aqueles que o leram, e a sua fama passou «de boca em boca». Atravessou finalmente o Atlântico e chega agora a Portugal.
