Florentino Mendes Pereira

Father Florentino Mendes Pereira was born in Vale de Espinho, Sabugal, diocese of Guarda, in 1929. He entered the Congregation of Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Claretians) in 1941. After preparatory studies and novitiate in Portugal, he studied Philosophy and Theology in Spain, and was ordained a priest in Barcelona in 1954.
He held various positions within the Congregation, from Director of the Philosophy Seminary to Professor of Anthropology, Psychology, and History of Religions, and also served as chaplain of Santa Maria in Lisbon for four years.
In Africa, where he served as a missionary for 9 years, he held several important positions at the Congregation and Church levels. He distinguished himself in service to Consecrated Life for over 30 years, traveling throughout the country, the islands, and Brazil. In the year 2000, due to illness, he ceased his work as an itinerant missionary.
It is said that "his grace lies in working with simplicity without drawing attention to himself."
He has lived for 11 years in Tondela, diocese of Viseu, involved in parish ministry, specializing in attending to people... in psychological and spiritual matters.
