É Professor Auxiliar Convidado do Departamento de História, Estudos Europeus, Arqueologia e Artes da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra. É igualmente investigador do Instituto Português de Relações Internacionais da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (IPRI/NOVA) e do Centro de Estudos Interdisciplinares do Século XX (CEIS20-UC). Doutorado em História e Civilização pelo Instituto Universitário Europeu de Florença, tem escrito sobre o colonialismo português em África, nomeadamente em Angola e em Moçambique, e sobre História Contemporânea de Portugal. Entre as suas obras, destacam-se Angola. Os Brancos e a Independência e, em Itália, Storia Politica del Portogallo Contemporaneo,1800-2000. Em 2018 foi agraciado com o Prémio Barbosa de Melo de Estudos Parlamentares pela Assembleia da República.
