Nasceu em Nampula, Moçambique, no ano de 1941. Trabalhou em duas das chamadas oito grandes empresas internacionais de auditoria, tendo ingressado, aos 31 anos, nos quadros da Arthur & Andersen & Co. Foi Senior Audit Manager responsável pela auditoria de grandes empresas multinacionais. Viveu e trabalhou em vários países, tendo sido, em simultâneo, Cônsul Honorário de Portugal na República da Libéria.
