Fernando Póvoas formou-se na Faculdade de Medicina do Porto e hoje trabalha entre Lisboa e o Porto nas suas duas clínicas onde presta apoio – juntamente com a sua equipa multidisciplinar – nas áreas de nutrição, psicologia, estética e cirurgia plástica a milhares de doentes de vários pontos do país, Espanha e Angola. Trabalhou na área desportiva ao serviço do Futebol Clube do Porto, Ermesinde e Freamunde. Foi no Centro de Saúde de S. Pedro da Cova, onde exercia Medicina Geral e Familiar, que começou a tratar, com uma taxa elevada de sucesso, inúmeros casos de obesidade.
