Fernando Morais
Fernando Morais was born in Mariana, Minas Gerais, in 1946.
He worked at Afternoon Newspaperin the magazine Look and in several other publications in the Brazilian press.
He has received the Esso Prize three times and the Abril Journalism Prize four times.
He was a member of parliament (1979-1987) and Secretary of Culture (1988-1991) and of Education (1991-1993) for the State of São Paulo.
Author of several books, he debuted in literary reporting with The IslandIn 1976, he wrote an account of a trip to Cuba, which became one of the biggest bestsellers in Brazil.
From the book Dirty HeartsIn 2001, it received the Jabuti Prize and the distinction of best book of the year in the non-fiction category.
