Eric Dunning

Eric Dunning (1936-2019) ficou conhecido pelo esforço de institucionalização académica da sociologia do desporto. Discípulo e colega de Norbert Elias, liderou um grupo de investigadores na Universidade de Leicester que adaptou a teoria do processo civilizacional a um conjunto de trabalhos sobre o desenvolvimento do desporto moderno em Inglaterra. De entre as suas obras, destacam-se as que analisaram a origem e a manutenção de formas de violência nos espetáculos desportivos.
