Conhecida pelo pseudónimo Emmanuelle Arsan, foi uma romancista e atriz francotailandesa, mais conhecida pelo romance Emmanuelle, história de uma mulher que parte numa viagem de autodescoberta sexual. O romance inspirou diversos filmes com títulos homónimos aos das suas obras que foram objeto de edições clandestinas. Marayat foi ainda modelo e musa do famoso pintor expressionista e fotógrafo francês Pierre Molinier. Morreu em 12 de junho de 2005, com 73 anos, em Chantelouve, em França, vítima de doença prolongada.
