Diego Armando Maradona

Legendary football player, for many the best of all time. He was born in 1960 and grew up in Villa Fiorito, a humble neighborhood in greater Buenos Aires, Argentina. There he forged his style, both on and off the field. Talented and controversial, magical and defiant, he faced – and defeated – both the most powerful teams and what he considered to be "FIFA corruption." He also had his personal challenges, such as cocaine addiction and conflicted relationships with teammates and coaches.
He began his career at Argentinos Juniors, played for Boca Juniors and Barcelona before arriving at Napoli, where he won two Scudettos and a UEFA Cup. He shone for the Argentine national team from the youth level – with whom he won the World Cup in Japan in 1979 – to the senior team, which he led to the title in Mexico in 1986 and second place in Italy in 1990, in addition to participating in the World Cups in Spain and the United States in 1982 and 1994, respectively. In 2010, he coached the national team in the World Cup in South Africa.
Memorable performances in triumphs against classic rivals – such as Brazil or England – place him in a category reserved for very few: Maradona is a living legend. She passed away on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60, at her home in Tigre, Argentina.
