Nasceu na Suíça, em 1972.

Estudou Contabilidade, mas as palavras e as imagens levaram a melhor sobre os números. Aos 22 anos, começou a colaborar com a revista italiana Linus, como autor-ilustrador de BD; depois, aos poucos, a sua vontade de contar histórias, levou-o a publicar livros para crianças, tendo quase todo o seu trabalho publicado pela editora francesa Sarbacane.

O estilo de Davide Calì caracteriza-se por um humor transbordante, um forte sentido de ritmo e também pela capacidade de criar diferentes camadas de leitura.

Os seus livros já ganharam prémios importantes: o álbum "Eu Espero" (editado em Portugal pela Bruáa) ganhou o Prémio Baobab 2005, do Salão de Montreuil; o álbum "Piano, piano" foi distinguido com uma Menção Especial do Júri no Prémio "Words and Music" 2006, da Feira Internacional de Bolonha.
