Danièle Sallenave nasceu em Angers em 1940. Frequentou a École normale supérieure e foi uma das fundadoras da revista Digraphe. Em 1980 ganhou o prémio Renaudot pelo seu romance Les Portes de Gubbio. Além de romancista, Danièle Salleneuve tem publicado na área do ensaio. É ainda uma aclamada tradutora do italiano. De Amor, um romance que tem apaixonado o público e a crítica, fixou-se nas listas das obras de ficção mais apreciadas pelo público leitor.
