É uma das jornalistas brasileiras mais premiadas de sua geração. Repórter especial do jornal Tribuna de Minas há 18 anos, tem no currículo mais de 20 prémios nacionais e internacionais, entre eles três prémios Esso, o mais recente recebido em 2012 com a série «Holocausto Brasileiro», dois prémios Vladimir Herzog (menção honrosa), o Knight International Journalism Award, entregue nos Estados Unidos (2010), e o prémio IPYS de Melhor Investigação Jornalística da América Latina e Caribe (Transparência Internacional e Instituto Prensa y Sociedad), recebido por ela em 2009, quando foi a vencedora, e 2012 (menção honrosa). Em 2002, foi premiada na Europa com o Natali Prize (menção honrosa). Holocausto Brasileiro ganhou o prémio de melhor livro-reportagem de 2013 da conceituada Associação Paulista de Críticos de Artes e será adaptado para televisão.
