D. Rui Valério

D. Rui Valério (b. 1964) is the current Patriarch of Lisbon. Born in Urqueira, Ourém, he joined the Society of Mary in 1990. He graduated in Dogmatic Theology from the Gregorian University, and later continued his studies in Louvain and Lisbon. In 2018, he was appointed Bishop of the Military Ordinariate and, in 2023, Patriarch of Lisbon, shortly after the World Youth Day, which took place in the city that year.
