Nascido em 1937, Luiz de Lancastre Tavora, Marquês de Abrantes, dedicou-se largos anos à investigação histórica, em especial nos campos da Genealogia, Heráldica e Sigilografia. Com um elevado número de trabalhos publicados, duas das suas obras mereceram ser galardoadas, uma delas com um prémio internacional. Fez parte do corpo docente dos Cursos de Iniciação à Genealogia e Heráldica com o patrocínio das Universidades Clássica e Nova de Lisboa. Morreu em Fevereiro de 1993.
